Article Reviews -- 25 years into the Future.

Based on the Facer & Sandford (2010) article, I have a bold imagination about 25 years into the future.

Considering what could happen in the year 2043:

The 1 scenario from the Facer & Sandford(2010) article that I think is viable is the "trust yourself" world.

He mentioned two educational systems that are likely to emerge according to this prediction. One is called 'Informed Choice', which is a highly personalized education system structured. Another one is the 'Independent consumer', which is a highly atomized educational system. I believe that this future world is promised because:

1) With the explosion of mobile and personal technologies, the threshold of accessing data and storage of information is decreased. Learners can easily get their desired bespoke knowledge from the internet, the personal mentor or educational institution's data storage. There will be fewer boundaries between the formal education system, (the University, institution, etc. )and the informal education system, which is self-directed learning, mentorship, family education, etc. Getting educational resources will be a life-long purposed for the learners and learning will permeate into every place in life. The online education resources will become more authoritative and organized, which provide students with a variety of learning environment to meet their needs. The curriculum will be customized and personalized according to the characteristics of students. The student will be empowered to choose the strategies, resources, and modalities, to learn and to demonstrate their own needs and proficiency.

"individuals are increasingly likely to 'wrap' their information landscape around themselves rather than managing it through the institutions"  (for review exploring these first two issues, see cliff et. all. 2008; Riley 2009; Young & Muller 2009).

2) People may work together at the distance,  the development of technology helps to enhance the “presence” of remote interaction. “together apart” is likely to be an aspect that people are more familiar with in education, leisure life, and their personal life. The interaction between educational stakeholders will be more virtual.

1) There will be a more innovative and hands-on learning environment.

With the development of technology and artificial intelligence, many filed will be replaced by the machine. However, one precious gift that human possessed and not likely to be replaced by the machine is creativity.

Creativity always takes place in a relaxing and pleasant space where everyone in the environment can easily jump into the process of discussion or brainstorming; where people can get their flow of creativity. Schools need to rethink the classroom learning environment to better meet the needs of students. The environment should be conducive to creative learning and innovation process. For example, a cafe is a common place for teams to meet for discussing the creative projects. With this been said, the school will create more media lounges than the library with the shelves stuffed with books. But this space will have high-speed wireless Internet service (5 g network), coffee, touch-screen TV and comfortable chairs. This space can increase student engagement, and provide opportunities for project-based learning and the diverse student community. The redesign of the educational space, whether physical or virtual, can play an important role in the future.

2) Teacher as a guide

The role of the teacher is not only to convey knowledge in the conventional education system but also to identify students' strengths and their unique character. Thus, the role of the teacher is facilitators, which leads the student to develop their bespoke way of perceiving the world and knowledge. Their job is to guide students in the area they need guidance. The teacher does not dominate the classroom, instead, the student has more freedom to explore the learning objective and their pace of study. However, technology does not decrease the responsibility of teacher but increase it. The teacher will have more data available for assessing a student's learning process and behavior. In this way, they will have an insightful understanding of how students struggle and their common mistake, so they can focus on the difficulty where the student needs more attention and help. It makes the education process more efficient.
